Understanding how you can use your photos 📸

Thank you investing in professional photography! Here's a quick guide to help you understand how your images can be used, depending on the type of license you have purchased. This ensures clarity and protects both your experience and the integrity of the work.

Personal Use License (for social media and/or print)

what it allows

  • Sharing on personal social media (with credit is appreciated!)
  • Saving on your devices
  • Printing for your home, gifts or scrapbooks (depending on file size)

what it does not allow

  • Commercial or promotional use
  • Altering the image beyond cropping (or filters - I prefer you do not)
  • Reselling or distributing the image

A print release is not a copyright release - I retain the rights to the image, but you are welcome to print it as much as you'd like for personal enjoyment!

Editorial License

what it allows

  • Use in articles, blogs, magazines, and publications
  • Use in newsworthy or informative context (e.g. horse trainer profile, feature story, or even coverage)

what it does not allow

  • Direct promotion of a brand, product or service
  • Use as advertising or in sponsored content

Editorial use is about storytelling - it informs or educates, rather than sells.

Commercial License

what it allows

  • Use in marketing, branding, product packaging, websites, ads, and social media tied to a business
  • Unlimited reach (global/online/print)

what it does not allow

  • Exclusive rights (unless purchased separately)
  • Use in resale (like merchandise or templates for resale)

Commercial licensing includes a broader usage scope and may include higher fees to reflect its business value.
